| High School Service Learning Projects |

Each Service Learning Project engages students in 20 hours of activity and service. Grade 9 Biology - Science students research then take a field trip. A report is later written on the observation from the field study. The results are also posted on the IEARN website. Students can view findings of the other schools at this site and exchange comments on their science work. Grade 10 Chemistry – Sophomores in both chemistry classes also do background work then take a field trip that is linked to topics discussed in class. Students reflect on their field study and post result son the IEARN website. Students are encourage to interact with the efforts of other schools around the world. Grade 11- In 2007-2008, a pilot project was launched by the MS/HS Principal, Dan McKee and the Curriculum Coordinator, Kili Lay. Students spent time volunteering at the Mother Theresa Soup Kitchen, an organization to help feed the needy in downtown Barcelona. Based on the needs of the sisters who run the soup kitchen, groups of students accompanied by an adult chaperone, worked at the soup kitchen for four hours on Monday mornings in the second semester. Grade 12 - In 2007-2008, a pilot project was launched, initiated by two students in the senior class, Arthur Holland and Bhavin Pamnani. Sponsored by Dan McKee and Kili Lay, students in the senior class, led by Arthur and Bhavin, organized an Open Day for students at the Center Obert. The Center provides afternoon activities, supervision, instruction, love, stability, and food for students from poor, often immigrant families in the Raval. The Open Day was held on BFIS and was a huge success.
