Elementary School Service Learning Projects

Middle States Association for Accreditation (referred to as MSA) – Elementary School students have selected to perform a variety of projects- school, community, and world-based. Some grades have repeated successful projects done in the first year we introduced Service Learning as a student performance objective, while others have decided to do something different and start up new projects.

Grade K – "Our Community Garden" - helping sustain our community garden which provided nutricious produce for our cafeteria!

Grade 1 – G1 has chosen to perform an environmental focused on "Campus Cleanup" and persuasive writing.

Grade 2 – G2 created their very own delicious "International Dessert Recipe Book" to be sold at a class book auction during Young Author's Fair. Proceeds went to a charity to help provide a better habitat for panda bears, an animal studied during our China social studies unit.

Grade 3 – G3 went regularly to a nearby nursing home, the Sant Gervasi Nursing Home. Our kids spent time with the older generation, listening to stories, telling stories, singing songs, making art, and brightening the day for someone special.

Grade 4 – G4 repeated a collaborative project with Ryan's Well, a fundraiser in Africa, tied to a science unit on ecosytems and biomes.

Grade 5 – G5 once again worked to save Latin American Rain Forests. Students studied the rain forest in Brazil, staged plays as fundraisers, and subsidized support of several acres of rain forests in Amazonia.
