About Me

I am from Austin, Texas, and I grew up in a small town about 45 minutes southwest of the city, riding horses, swimming in the creek, and spending hours roaming about in the countryside on my neighbors' ranches. Like most Texans, my heart will always be there.

I graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with BA in Communication with a focus on Public Relations, and dual minors in Business and Sociology. My first career was in event planning, first for the San Antonio Symphony as Guest Artist Liaison, and later for a high-tech firm in Austin as their in-house Corporate Event Coordinator.

After 5 years working with musicians and engineers, I decided I had spent enough time dealing with adults who acted like children, and decided to pursue a career with children. I attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) and graduated with an MEd in elementary education with dual emphasis in educational technology and gifted and talented education. As part of a post-graduate practicum, I spent a semester working in a school in Auckland, New Zealand.

In addition to classroom certifications, I also hold certifications in Gifted and Talented and English as a Second Language from the Texas State Board of Educator Certification. I taught for three years in Round Rock, Texas as the Talented and Gifted coordinator for an elementary school, and served on numerous district-level committees writing currciculum, examining and revising polices and procedures, and facilitating and conducting teacher training at all levels.

Please take the time to introduce yourself and share a little with me about your background.

Interests:
Outside of school I love to travel, and I am very lucky to live and work in Barcelona, which has allowed me to do so much of it. I have been a certified scuba diver since I was 12, and I try to do it when I have the chance. I am also a big movie fan, and try to see as many as possible.

The thing I am most homesick for here (besides Dr. Pepper and Mexican food) is my family. My mother is a high school history teacher, and my dad is in real estate. My sister manages knowledge base articles for an online gaming company, and her husband is a post-production sound engineer for Troublemaker Studios. In their spare time, they volunteer with a rescue group and foster abandoned dogs who are waiting for adoption.
