BFIS is excited to announce that next year we will have the opportunity to field competitive futbol/soccer teams through a partnership with Maddock Sports in the Consell de l’Esport Escolar de Barcelona (Barcelona School Sports league). These teams are meant to provide another level of extra curricular involvement for students. These teams are not meant to replace the current youth futbol/soccer after school activities that already take place on campus. These activities will continue next year for students who cannot or do not wish to advance to the next level of competitive team sports. They are meant to provide a more serious, structured, and competitive team environment for student athletes. On Tuesday, April 22nd, we will have our next book fair. It will again be held all day in the music room. The same company (Bookworld España) will be running the fair, and students can either bring cash or set things aside for their parents to pick up later in the day. All elementary classes will visit the fair during a set time period, and middle/high school students can come when they have free periods. The BFIS Library receives 40% of the profits to spend on books with Bookworld España, so shopping at the fair benefits the school!
On Friday, April 4th, the AP Biology and AP Chemistry classes took a fieldtrip to the Lake Banyoles area to conduct a microbiology and redox chemistry fieldstudy with outdoor education leader (and former BFIS science teacher), Mr. Bruno Schull. On this day, a group of entirely female students engaged in hands-on, authentic fieldwork - testing for presence sulfur, oxygen content, environmental factors such as sun exposure, temperature of water, odor and color of the water. Fieldwork will be accompanied by classwork and a report of their data and conclusions.
On Thursday April 3rd, BFIS will host its annual Career Day.
High School students will not have their regular classes that day but will report, instead, to the main court at 8:55 a.m. when the bell rings.
Mr. David Risher will start off our day with some comments about work and career and then a number of grade 12 students will lead small groups in an activity designed to help students think about their skills, passions and priorities. The second half of the morning will be spent, in the high school building, in career panels in which our guests, from various fields, will describe their work and students will have an opportunity to ask questions.
This is a great opportunity for students to learn about work from people who feel passionately about what they do.
Please note that students will choose two of four panels in homeroom on Tuesday. On Wednesday, lists for the small group work and the career panels will be posted in the main foyer of the high school building.
This year, Reda Maadini and Kili Lay took a team of three students to compete in the annual Junior Math Competition organized by the ISMTF organization. Nearly 200 students from 42 schools came to Vienna to test their mathematical abilities over a weekend at the start of our Semana Santa.

Introducing Friday College Workshops during High School Lunch (1:45 p.m.) in Ms. McDiarmid's Office (Room 413).
All students are welcome to attend these workshops. If you are a grade 11 student thinking of applying to university outside Spain (and not already in Ms. McDiarmid Counseling 11 class) you should definitely attend!
