Summer@BFIS: A Classroom Without Walls Print E-mail
Written by Keelin Swalve and Maribel Castillo, Summer@BFIS Coordinators

We are pleased to introduce Summer @ BFIS. The goal of this program is to provide children with intensive arts experiences in a culturally diverse environment that emphasizes artistic expression and acquisition of the English and Spanish language.

The children will benefit from the great opportunities Barcelona has to offer. Students will participate in cultural fieldtrips to local museums and galleries every week. Hands-on workshops at these venues will be in Spanish. On campus, the children will participate in English activities based on the content from these workshops.  The instructors will implement innovative strategies to ensure that all students benefit from their artistic and cultural language immersion experiences throughout Barcelona and back on campus.

Dr. David Penberg, Director of BFIS, will supervise the elaboration and implementation of Summer @ BFIS. Ms. Keelin Swalve and Ms. Maribel Castillo, Summer @ BFIS Coordinators, will be in charge of the program. The program will be staffed with native English and multilingual instructors, as well as a Physical Education specialist, all with a wide range of experience in the field of education.

The program is open to a maximum of 60 students, ages 3 ½ to 12. It is open to all students regardless of their native language.

The deadline for enrollment is Friday, May 30th, 2008.

We look forward to welcoming your children to Summer @BFIS!

Sincerely,

Keelin Swalve and Maribel Castillo, Coordinators of Summer @ BFIS
