This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 6o de Primaria.  The aim of this course is to consolidate reading, speaking, writing, grammar and spelling skills.  Students work with various texts individually and cooperatively to improve reading skills. The use of stories, fairy tales, poems, narratives, and theatre helps to build speaking and writing skills.  The study of irregular tenses of the 3 main conjugations, determiners, and pronouns is the focus to improve grammar and spelling skills.  In Sociedad, two main learning blocks are explored: European geography and history.  Geography includes the study of the European Union and its countries, landforms, rivers, seas and coasts, climate and vegetation. History engages students in the study of the era of discoveries, absolutist monarchies and Industrial Era (XV- XX century,) and Spain as a democrat state.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 1o de E.S.O.  Each didactical unit is divided in several sections: reading Comprehension, type of texts, morphology, vocabulary, and spelling. The main goal of the course is to enable students to understand then write or comment on a text.  There will be special emphasis on spelling, vocabulary and morphology. 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 1o de E.S.O.  The main goal is to improve the linguistic skills related to listening, reading, speaking and writing.  The units of study in the course include literature, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.  At the end of the year the students must be able to write dialogues, descriptions, and narrative texts. Students should also be able to read and make comments on books, applying the  grammatical rules in accordance to their age.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 2o de E.S.O.  This class will allow students to acquire the necessary skills for basic text analysis.  At a linguistic level, both morphosintaxis and semantics will be covered with special emphasis on type of words and their function in basic sentences.  In Literature, students will be introduced to the three genres: poetry, prose and theatre.  Students will be introduced to Spain’s linguistic reality: its different languages and dialects.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 2o de E.S.O.  The objective of this course is to understand and produce written and oral messages in a proper, autonomous, and creative way.  At a linguistic level phonetics, spelling, vocabulary and Catalan grammar are covered. The study of literature allows the student to read, analyze, and evaluate the different literary styles such as narratives, poetry, epics, theatre, dialogues, and so on.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 3o de E.S.O.   This class will allow students to acquire the necessary skills for text analysis both at linguistic and literary levels. Types of texts examined are narratives, poetry, and drama.  At a linguistic level, both morphosintaxis and semantics will be covered. In Literature, students learn about the masterpieces and/or most representative authors of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassicism. There will be special emphasis on practicing literary analysis through writing, vocabulary building, synonyms, antonyms, polisemic words, etc. 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 3o de E.S.O. and is for students who have their studies convalidated.  This course is a chronological study that covers the Modern State (Catholic Kings era, XV century), Imperial Spain, the Bourbons, the 1812 Constitution, the Republics, the Civil War, Franco’s Dictatorship and transition to Democracy.  The goal of this course is for the students to get a gain an understanding of the most relevant events in Spain during the modern era.  Students will also discover how key events had on impact on the society, economy, and culture of Spain.  

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 3o de E.S.O.  The main goal is to optimize knowledge and skills acquired in the previous courses in the areas of literary genres, grammar, vocabulary and spelling.  On a literary level, Catalan Literature of the 12th to the 20th century is covered to include troubadour poetry, Ramon Llull, Joanot Martorell, Ausiàs March, Bernat Metge, Romanticism, Renaissance and Jacint Verdaguer.  Students will develop a greater knowledge of and appreciation for Catalan language and literature.

CATALÀ 9è grau                                                                                 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 4o de E.S.O.  This class is taught in Spanish.  Students develop map reading and map interpreting skills.  Many types of maps are examined, most prominently physical and political.  Students also develop graphic interpretation skills by viewing charts, tables, and graphs on topics such as autonomous communities, population dynamics, cities, and economic activities.  The impact of man on nature, with such forces as human migration, is studied as well as the impact of nature on man as in the case of climate or natural disasters.  Spain is not only studied in itself but also within the context of the European Union.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 4o de E.S.O.  The class will allow students to acquire the necessary skills for text analysis both at linguistic and literary levels.  At a linguistic level, 3 main areas of interest will be covered: phonics, morphosintaxis and semantics.  In Literature, students learn about the masterpieces and authors of the most representative movements of the XIX and XX century:  Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, Generation of '98 and '27, Novecentism, Avantgard Movement, and Postwar Literature. Also, the historical context and the most relevant events of those periods are covered.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 4o de E.S.O.  The class has two main goals.  First, students will consolidate knowledge; grammar, spelling, and vocabulary skills acquired in previous classes.  Second, students will acquire a basic understanding of the most representative movements and authors in Catalonia in the XX century.  These include Modernism, Novecentism, Avantgard Movement, and Postwar literature.  Activities are designed so that students will develop verbal, writing, listening, and reading skills.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 1o de Bachillerato.  The main goal of the course is to assist students in better expressing themselves in the Catalan language.  An additional objective is to develop a greater interest in Catalan literature.  On a linguistic level, skills are expanded in the areas of text analysis and morphology.  On a literary level, a study of the Middle Ages is emphasized. Upon leaving the class, students will be able to write and speak in Catalan in a more effective manner.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 1o de Bachillerato.  Students will examine the broad scope of Spanish history from the appearance of the first hominids to the modern state.  Key events explored include: the evolution of the first civilizations of Iberians, Celtiberans, Greeks, etc; the Punic Wars; Romanization process; the Middle Ages; the consolidation of Christian kingdoms; the cultural diversity of Al-Andalus and the Spanish re-conquest; the Consolidation of the modern state; the Empire of Austria; the arrival of the Bourbons; the liberal and republican experiences; the Civil War; the Franco Dictatorship.   Students will develop higher order thinking skills in studying the chain of chronological events in Spanish history. 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 1o de Bachillerato.  The class is compulsory for students who have their studies convalidated. Students who enroll in this class already have a general overview of the Spanish Literature and seek to complete works studied. The time periods studied are Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassicism. A different literary genre is covered each trimester.  In the first trimester, narratives such as Cervantes y el Quijote and El lazarillo de Tormes are studied.  In the second trimester, the baroque theatre and neoclassicism are viewed.  Examples are Fuenteovejuna from Lope de Vega, La vida es sueño from Calderón and El sí de las niñas from Moratín.  In the third trimester, poetry is studied with students examining Garcilaso, Fray Luis de León, San Juan de la Cruz, Góngora y Quevedo. 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 2o de Bachillerato.  The class is compulsory for students who have their studies convalidated.  The main goal is to prepare students for the Selectividad Exam. It is a common subject both for students that study sciences and for those who study mixed or humanities.  It consists of an in-depth study of the Spanish Language.  Phonics, Morphology, Syntax and Semantics are covered. The students should be able to analyze texts both syntactically and literarily. 

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 2o de Bachillerato.   It meets 5 times a week for a full academic year.  Its objective is to situate Spain in the global context with the aim of appreciating the advantages and inconveniences which its geographic situation offers and to value its social, economic and cultural characteristics.  In order for the students to get a global vision, the subject is divided into seven units, including topics such as Spain’s vision at worldwide level, its physical geography, its population, its predominant productive sectors and the outline and development of its urban space.

The AP Spanish Literature course is intended to be equivalent of a third year college introduction to Hispanic Literature course. It covers selected authors and works from the literature of Spain and Latin America and centers on the understanding and analysis of literary texts.

The goals of the AP Spanish Literature course are to prepare students

• to understand lectures in Spanish and to participate actively in discussions in Spanish on literary topics;
• to do a close reading of literary texts of all genres in Spanish; and
• to analyze critically the form and content of literary works, including poetry, orally and in writing, using appropiate terminology.

This course is based on the Spanish official program contents for 2o de Bachillerato.  The main goal of this course is for student to develop a solid knowledge of the Catalan language. The course is divided into several unit of study and these include grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing. Upon exiting the Catalan curriculum, students will have confidence in their ability to express themselves in the Catalan language.  Students will be able to write and speak effectively in Catalan.
