FIRST GRADE NEWS
September 2008
 Feel free to come in and check your child's "Writing Portafolio" (in cubbies). There you will find your child's writing pieces (done in Writing Workshop) and also your child's independent writing (done in Literacy Centers)
We have started our Word Study program! Students are getting used to this program's weekly routine therefore we are not yet sending home a spelling list The first one will go home Monday October 6th.
Ask your child what he/she knows about volcanoes! during our "open" period we will learn all about the topics they are most interested at. Together, students came up with a list of interesting topics they want to know more about. We have started to explore the first one: volcanoes!
We are starting the first unit of Explorations (Science) the last week of September. We will be learning about Air and Weather.
We have also started the "Math Warm-up". This is a chart with three mathematical problems per day. We solve it together the first 10 minutes of every math lesson. Next week your child will take it home to resolve these problems with your help.
