Service learning provides an opportunity for students to learn about helping others in the school, the community and the world at large. Service learning is the second of two student performance objectives of the current phase of our Middle States Association accreditation. The Association for Service Learning and Education Reform (ALSER) service learning model is used for projects. It identifies 11 standards for a successful service project and is useful in judging the success of all our 13 service learning projects. Examples of service projects include fundraising and learning activities to save the Amazon rain forests and to buy books for a Madagascar school. The school holds charters with iEARN and Roots and Shoots and our service projects have been featured in international newsletters.
