Volunteer Clubs – There are 4 high school service clubs and the student council and honor society also engages in service projects throughout the year. Two of the clubs are campus-based, one is communitybased, and one is world-based. The total membership of the clubs is 92.
Campus Club - 36 students, from G9 through Grade 12, volunteer their time to help to serve lunch to Grade N-P-K students. Students also help out with campus improvements. A used book sale was held to raise money for a new NPK sandbox. Nora Nalle, Nikki Kapp, Anna Hevia, and Nico Guardans are officers. Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Mother Teresa's Soup Kitchen - 36 students, working in groups of 9, volunteer their Saturday mornings once per month to help out at the Barcelona soup kitchen. Guimar Mendieta, Sofia Wareham, Roberto Ortega, and Priynaka Raheja are officers. Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
UNICEF – 10 students plan and execute lessons to elementary classrooms on the themes of antiracism, anti-ageism, anti-sexism, etc. Oscar Rodriquez, Victor Veita, Sidra Ali-Zulfigar, and Sharon Feldberg are officers. Meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of the month.
IEARN – 10 students belong to the International Education and Research Network. Students help with elementary service projects by creating award certificates and posting projects on the IEARN website. Steffi Mongelos, Yoon-Ji Jo, Ayumi Mizuno, Junko Nodo, and Neera Tekwani are officers. Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of the month.
Student Council – HSSC is primarily a student government organization. But it also plays a vital role in the high school service learning program. A very successful service project the past two years has been a food collection partnership program with the Booster Club.
National Honor Society - The present and aspiring members of the NHS commit themselves to perform 25 hours of service learning. Students are free to organize their own service projects as well as to participate in school-sponsored clubs.
Middle States - All classes participate in a Middle States service learning project. Each project engages students in 20 hours or service. Two of the projects, for G9 and G10, are community-based while two, G11 and G12, are school-based.
- Grade 9 Biology - Science students research then take a field trip. A report is later written on the observation from the field study. The results are also posted on the IEARN website. Students can view findings of the other schools at this site and exchange comments on their science work.
- Grade 10 Chemistry – Sophomores in both chemistry classes also do background work then take a field trip that is linked to topics discussed in class. Students reflect on their field study and post result son the IEARN website. Students are encourage to interact with the efforts of other schools around the world.
- Grade 11 Environmental Science and Physics – Juniors study the technology of CDs then record music CDs for elementary music class. Each year a song list is created for 1 elementary grade. G11 also conducts a fundraiser for an AV device that students feel is needed.
- Grade 12 International Relations and Psychology – Seniors help out at the BFISMUN for middle school. A two-day General Assembly is held that senior help to set up and run. The class also assists the instructor in selecting students for special recognition.
