Volunteer Clubs – There are 5 active middle school service clubs and the student council and national junior honor society that are engaged in service projects. Both the service clubs are school-based. The total membership in these service clubs is 18.
- Campus Club – 12 students volunteer their time one day per week to help guide children across the street before school since there is heavy traffic at this time. The students help the school janitor with the safety project.
- Roots and Shoots – 6 students belong to R+S. BFIS has held a charter for R+S for 2 years. The club has committed itself to outdoor projects such as pulling weeds, placing landfill material near trees, and removing rocks from campus.
- Office Filing - Grade 6 students take turns in teams to file the considerable college correspondence in the counselor's office. Students give up their break time to file literature BFIS receives from around the globe.
- Recycling – Grade 7 students are assigned a paper recycling area on campus. Their task is to regularly pick up the paper and place it in paper recycling bins. The project is done through the G7 Science Class.
- Sand Box – Grade 8 students alternate in cleaning the sand box and Grade N-P-K play area. Students sweep up the loose sand that may cause a young student to fall. Toys are also picked up and placed in the storage area. The project is organized through the G8 Science Class.
- Student Council – 12 MSSC students perform a variety of service tasks. It has removed graffiti from the exterior walls of BFIS. Student council also built a new sandbox for Grade N-P-K. It also assists with grade-level MSA projects. MSSC meets every Wednesday during the morning break.
- National Junior Honor Society - Members of NJHS must demonstrate that they have performed 15
hours of service learning in order to be considered for membership. Once selected for membership,
students are obligated to participate in the club service project – an elementary writing contest.
Middle States – Middle School students have selected to perform world-based project in the two years of Middle States. The projects have been successful and have appeared in NGO newsletters read by students around the world.
- Grade 6 – For the past 2 years, G6 has conducted the Carlos Project. Students learn about education in Guatemala and then do a fundraiser to pay the tuition for an entire year for 1 student. The class has committed itself to helping out with the education of a young male student named Carlos.
- Grade 7 – In the past, G7 has done a beach clean-up project along the Costa Brava. This year the class is deciding on a project that they hope will meet a more pressing need. A world-based project is being considered.
- Grade 8 - Grade 8 has decided to discontinue its school-based energy survey project in favor of a world-based Nets-for-Malaria project. This project will bring awareness and funding to the problem of malaria in one African community.
