Mondays

1.  Homework Helpers    4:20-5:20pm    2nd – 6th    BFIS/ Tonya Swartzendruber
Need a little help with your study skills and organization? Could you use some guidance while completing your homework?  Homework Helpers is time set aside for working on nightly homework and projects free from distractions.  Students work individually on their homework with the support and guidance of an educator.  Such structured study time can be especially helpful for disorganized students and students with special needs.

2. Catalan/Spanish         4:20- 5:20pm       2nd – 4th            BFIS/ Nuria McElwee
Play games and do activities that build and extend Spanish and Catalan vocabulary; also a chance for some extra guidance on homework assignments.
        
3.  Basketball                 4:20 -5:20pm       K- 5th         BFIS/ Brandon Doles
This after school activity is open to boys and girls in grades (K-5th). The focus of this camp will be to teach the basic fundamentals of basketball. There will be drills and games that will help you improve your dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. We´ll also go over offensive and defensive strategies, along with the rules of the game. So if you want to get better a basketball and make some new friends sign up now!!!
                         

4.Explorations in Digital Photography    4:20-5:20pm    6th -8th    BFIS/ Ellie Kreishcher
Bring your camera and join me for a weekly adventure into the world of digital photography.  Barcelona is a great place to take pictures, so we will explore our neighborhood in search of interesting shots of architecture, people, landscapes, and whatever else your eye can see.  We will use the computer lab alter our images using Photoshop and prepare them for an end of the year photography show. Personal digital camera is required
               
5. Travel Club                 4:20 -5:20pm        7th – 9th           BFIS/ Monna McDiarmid
Travelers wanted.  High School Counselor seeks travel companions for two long-weekend trips within Spain and Europe.  Must want to learn everything possible about our destinations, from reading fiction and non-fiction books, watching films that are set there, reading articles, listening to music from there, interviewing people who´ve traveled or lived there, and learning a few phrases of a totally (or not) unfamiliar language!   Must be interested in choosing our destinations and planning our itineraries and taking great photographs and eating great food and walking in the footsteps of history and sharing what you learn with others.  If you are in grade 7-9, are responsible and enthusiastic, and have a suitcase (or can borrow one) that´s ready for a new adventure, this is your after-school activity! Limited to 8 students
                   
6.  Creative Painting       4:20 – 5:20pm      9th – 12th          BFIS / David Magaña
Freestyle painting and drawing with an emphasis on personal expression will be explored using a variety of mixed media and alternative materials. Proposed projects range from working on traditional canvas to large murals on the school campus.

Tuesdays

1.  Soccer                      4:20-5:20pm      Pre-K – 3rd       BFIS/Chris Szyman
Have fun learning the fundamentals of soccer.  Fundamentals allow us to play, enjoy, learn about ourselves and inspire others.  The sessions will be exciting and fun with lots of small games and touches of the ball.  Bring tennis shoes and shin guards.

2.  Movie Makers         4:20-5:20pm        6th -8th        BFIS/ Bradley Bergey
Wanna make movies?  Practice making all kinds of movies, including creative short films, documentaries and claymation.  Learn how to write scripts, plan your shots, use a video camera and edit footage.  For eager movie makers of all ability levels.  All equipment provided.  Sign up with a friend.

3.  Martial Arts           4:20-5:20pm        3rd – 5th       BFIS/ Genevieve Hildebrandt
Practice and study in the shadow of the masters. Find peace of mind and exercise the body.  This class will focus on the Shurin-Ryu form of martial arts.  Ms. Hildebrandt is a back belt in Shurin-Ryu and has studied other forms of martial arts.

4.  Experimental Drawing      4:20-5:20pm      6th - 8th       BFIS/ Ellie Kreishcher
Come explore different experimental drawing techniques while building your portfolio (especially for AP Art). We will spend our afternoons creating still-life, landscape, portrait, abstract, and realism drawings with a variety of mediums (india ink, charcoal, pencil, pen, and more).

5. In- Line Skating                4:20- 5.20pm     1st – 5th       BFIS/Elena Pons
Come learn the basics and improve your skills on in-line skates. Play games, compete in races, and learn cool tricks. In-line skating is tons of fun and great exercise.

6. Film Production 4:20-5:20pm 8th – 12th BFIS/ Damien Pitter                       Robert Rodriguez made his first film, El Mariachi, for $750 and launched his Hollywood career. Only it wasn´t his first film. Before that, he practiced making films with a briefcase-sized video camera and two clunky VCRs. If you want to get into filmmaking, there´s no better moment than right now. The technology´s never been better, cheaper or more accessible. There´s never been a generation more capable of using it. If you have an interest in writing for the screen, directing, acting, editing, producing, cinematography or any combination thereof, this workshop will give you a chance to develop your skills and let loose your creativity. We will work collaboratively, using a few resources here at school, and whatever you bring with you, to have some fun telling stories on the screen.

Do you have younger children as BFIS that have little experience in Spanish / Catalan speaking environments? Would you like your children to be exposed to Spanish / Catalan language more?  How about some Spanish / Catalan playtime?

1.  Girl´s Soccer      4:20-5:20pm     5th – 8th     BFIS/Chris Szyman
Perfect all the skills you need so at a recess you can beat the boys by learning from Christina Szyman former player for the U.S. Women´s National Soccer team.

2. Basketball     4:20-5:20pm    6th – 12th    BFIS/ Brandon Doles
This after school program is open to all boys in grades (6-12). The focus of this program is to increase your current levels of play through, drills, games, and scrimmages. The skills that will be addressed are: dribbling, passing, shooting, post moves, defensive and offensive strategies. We want to assemble a squad of outstanding young men to represent BFIS, and play some of the other schools in the area. If you´re up for the challenge, sign up now!!!

3.  Dissections Club     4:20 – 5:20       6th – 12th        BFIS / Michael Balog
Have you ever wanted to look inside of an eyeball?  Have you ever wanted to touch a lung?  Have you ever considered becoming a doctor, surgeon or nurse?  Then this activity is for you.  In the club we will dissect various body parts, even entire organisms.  Great even if you are already in one of my classes.  An additional laboratory fee is required (40 Euros for each 10 sessions)

Fridays     

1. Interpretive Dance     4:20 -5:20pm      2nd – 5th     BFIS / Kathy Manu
Do you love to dance?  Do you love music?  Then join the interpretive dance group!  Learn different performance techniques and be exposed to different types of music!  Release stress and have fun with others who like to express themselves through movement! 
Dance styles will include: hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, and musical theater!

Model United Nations Club (Trip to Portugal)

BFIS will run an after school club from September 17th until November 10th to prepare for the IMUN in Portugal. 15 students from grades 9-12 will be allowed to travel (older students are given preference) if they regularly attend club sessions. The club will involve one after school session per week to practice debate (students can attend Monday or Thursday). The price is 125 Euros for the club plus travel and conference fees (to be announced). Students must be in good academic standing to participate.


Model United Nations Club (Trip to China)
Mr. Rugnetta and Mr. Bergey

BFIS will run an after school club from December 1st until March 16th to prepare for the BEIMUN in China. Approximately 13 seniors will be awarded the privilege to travel (priority will be given to Comparative Government students and MUN Club veterans-those that traveled to The Hague). The club will involve one after school session per week to practice debate (students can attend Monday or Thursday). The price is 150 Euros for the club plus travel and conference fees (to be announced). In addition to club practice, members will participate in mandatory fund raising activities. Students must be in good academic standing to participate.


Elementary Swimming- Swimming will be open to students in Pre-K through 2nd grade on Thursday afternoons.  Based on the amount of interest from parents, a determination will be made as to what part of the year each grade will attend swimming as Can Caralleu can only accommodate 60 students.  Please note that students will have to leave school at 3:30 pm in order to attend these classes.  Further information and details about this specific activity will be sent out by Mr. Duval in the coming days.

¿Necesitas ayuda con las técnicas de estudio, la organización  y los deberes? ¿Quieres que alguien te guíe para completar los deberes? Esta actividad será un tiempo para dedicar a la tarea sin distracción alguna. Los alumnos trabajarán de forma individual con el apoyo y la guía de un profesor. Este tiempo de estudio estructurado puede ser especialmente beneficioso para alumnos a los que les cuesta organizarse y para alumnos con necesidades especiales.

¡Aumenta tu vocabulario en Castellano y Catalán a través de juegos y debates, además de recibir ayuda con los trabajos de clase!

3.  Baloncesto    4:20 -5:20pm     K- Grado 5     BFIS/ Brandon Doles
Esta actividad está destinada a niños y niñas. El objetivo será descubrir los aspectos fundamentales del baloncesto. Aprenderemos trucos para mejorar el pase, los regates y los tiros. También estudiaremos estrategias defensivas y ofensivas de acuerdo con las reglas del juego. Si quieres mejorar y hacer amigos…¡apúntate!
     
4. Cómics     4:20-5:30pm    Grados 1-5    RECREA- Marta Gonzalez
Es una actividad sobre los cómics como medio de expresión. Cubriremos la historia de forma superficial y nos centraremos en los cómics como medio de expresión. Aprenderán a conectar ideas, y a integrar palabras y dibujos. También aprenderán a organizar la información de forma clara en una página. Crear cómics implica escribirlos, y cuando los niños imaginan historias a través de dibujos, están aprendiendo a escribir. Este taller ayudará básicamente a los lectores a leer y a los dibujantes a dibujar.

5.Explorando  la fotografía digital    4:20-5:20pm    Grados 6-8       BFIS/ Ellie Kreishcher
Trae tu cámara y descubre el mundo de la fotografía digital. Barcelona es la ciudad perfecta para sacar fotos, así que exploraremos el barrio en búsqueda de buenas instantáneas de arquitectura, gente y paisajes.  Usaremos el programa Photoshop en el aula de informática y nos prepararemos para una presentación a finales de curso. Se necesita una cámara digital

6. Club de viajes    4:20 -5:20pm     Grados 7 – 9     BFIS/ Monna McDiarmid
Se buscan compañeros para dos viajes durante dos puentes por España y Europa. Os deberá interesar aprender todo lo posible sobre los destinos: leeremos libros y artículos periodísticos, veremos películas,  escucharemos música del lugar, entrevistaremos a gente que haya vivido allí, ¡e incluso aprenderemos algunas frases del idioma del país! Deberéis elegir el destino y planificar el itinerario, y podréis sacar buenas fotos, degustar la gastronomía del lugar, caminar sobre los pasos de la historia y compartir vuestra experiencia con los demás. Si estás en los grados 7-9, eres responsable, entusiasta, y tienes una maleta preparada para la aventura, ¡esta es tu actividad! Hay un límite de 8 alumnos.

7.  Pintura creativa     4:20 – 5:20pm     Grados  9– 12     BFIS / David Magaña
Dibujo y Pintura de estilo libre con énfasis en la expresión personal con variedad de recursos y materiales alternativos. La propuesta de los trabajos va de lienzo tradicional a murales para el colegio.

8. Child Art    4:20-5:30pm    Grades 1-5    RECREA- Marta Gonzalez
Every week your child will engage in open ended art explorations that include drawing, painting, sculpture, pre-pasting or gluing. These explorations give your child the opportunity to develop awareness, appreciation, and sensitivity for the visual world and all its possibilities.

9.  Cine    4:20-5:20pm     Grados 8– 12     BFIS/ Damien Pitter
Robert Rodríguez hizo su primera película, El Mariachi, con 750 dólares y conquistó Hollywood. Sin embargo, no era su primera película. Antes había practicado con una cámara del tamaño de un maletín y dos videos anticuados. Si quieres introducirte en el mundo del cine, ahora es el mejor momento, ya que los recursos técnicos nunca han sido tan buenos, tan baratos y tan accesibles.  Nunca ha habido una generación tan capaz de usarlos. Si te interesa escribir, dirigir, editar y producir material cinematográfico, este taller te dará la oportunidad de dejar volar tu imaginación.  Trabajaremos conjuntamente, usando materiales del colegio y los que queráis traer para contra algo divertido a través de la pantalla.

Martes

1.  Fútbol     4:20-5:20pm     Pre-K – Grado 3      BFIS/Chris Szyman
Diviértete con los fundamentos del fútbol. Los fundamentos nos ayudan a jugar, disfrutar, aprender sobre nosotros mismos e inspirar a otros. Las clases serán divertidas y con muchos juegos. Deberán traer deportivas y espinilleras.

2.  Cine     4:20-5:20pm     Grados  6-8      BFIS/ Bradley Bergey
¡Quieres aprender a hacer películas? Crearemos todo tipo de películas, incluidos cortos, documentales y animación con plastilina.  Aprende a escribir guiones, captar planos, usar una videocámara y a editar el metraje. Os proporcionamos todo el equipo y es para todos los niveles, ¡apúntate con algún amigo!

3.  Artes marciales     4:20-5:20pm     Grados  3– 5     BFIS/ Genevieve Hildebrandt
Practica y estudia bajo las reglas del maestro. Encuentra el equilibrio mental y ejercita el cuerpo. Nos centraremos en la forma Shurin-Ryu.  Ms. Hildebrandt es cinturón negro en Shurin-Ryu y ha estudiado otras formas de artes marciales. 
           
4. Dibujo experimental    4:20-5:20pm     Grados  6 - 8    BFIS/ Ellie Kreishcher
Descubre las diferentes técnicas experimentales de dibujo mientras creas tus propias muestras (especialmente para AP Art). Crearemos naturalezas muertas, paisajes,  retratos, abstractos y pinturas realistas con variedad de materiales (tinta china, carboncillo, lápiz y más).

5. Patinaje en línea    4:20- 5.20pm        Grados 1-5      BFIS/Elena Pons
¡Ven a aprender a patinar o a mejorar tu técnica! Juegos, carreras y trucos muy divertidos. El patinaje en línea es muy divertido y un buen ejercicio

Taller de experimentación científica para niños. Creación de un cohete y numerosos experimentos matemáticos, químicos y de cocina; ilusiones ópticas, volar, flotar.  Reciclaje y agricultura creativa para niños. El taller de Todos somos científicos se llevará a cabo en los meses de invierno y ¡Vamos al huerto! en primavera-verano.

Desarrollar un montaje teatral y todo lo que conlleva.

Miércoles

Perfecciona todas las habilidades necesarias para ganar a los chicos durante el recreo.  Chris Szyman es antigua jugadora del equipo nacional femenino de los EE.UU.

2.Baloncesto masculino     4:20-5:20pm    Grados   6– 12                     BFIS/ Brandon Doles
El objetivo de este programa es mejorar la calidad del juego a través de ejercicios, juegos y líneas ofensivas. Trataremos las técnicas del pase, los regates, los tiros, la defensa y el ataque, siempre respetando las reglas del juego. Queremos congregar a un buen grupo de jóvenes que quieran representar a BFIS y jugar con algún otro colegio de los alrededores. Si estás preparado para el reto, ¡únete a nosotros!
           
3.  Club de disección     4:20 – 5:20      Grados  6– 12     BFIS / Michael Balog
¿Alguna vez has querido ver un ojo por dentro? ¿Has querido tocar un pulmón?  ¿Has considerado ser medico o enfermera? Entonces esta es una actividad diseñada para ti. En el club, diseccionaremos varias partes del cuerpo de animales, e incluso organismos enteros.  Se requiere una tarifa adicional por el uso del laboratorio (40 euros por cada 10 sesiones).

4. Yoga    4:20-5:30pm    Grados 1-5    RECREA- Maite Golmayo
Aprenderán a desarrollar la flexibilidad y la fuerza, y profundizarán en la atención a los recursos internos adecuados para cada momento. Haremos especial énfasis en la postura adecuada y en la respiración controlada para conseguir una integración cuerpo-mente-espíritu y así lograr una experiencia óptima al mismo tiempo que disfrutan de la práctica.
                                    

Viernes

1. Interpretación/Danza     4:15-5:15pm     Grados  2-5       BFIS/ Kathryn Manu
¿Te gusta bailar? ¿Te encanta la música? Entonces…¡únete a nosotros! Aprende diferentes técnicas interpretativas y escucha diferentes tipos de música. Deja a un lado el estrés y disfruta con otros que quieran expresarse a través del movimiento. ¡Los estilos musicales que bailaremos son el rap, jazz, bailes de salón y musicales!

Club de Model United Nations (Viaje a China)

BFIS ofrecerá una actividad desde el 1 de diciembre hasta el 16 de marzo para preparar a los alumnos para el BEMUN de China. Aproximadamente 13 alumnos de ultimo curso tendrán el privilegio de viajar, aunque tendrán prioridad los alumnos de Comparative Government y los veteranos de MUN (los que viajaron a  La Haya). Habrá una sesión extraescolar a la semana en la que se practicarán las técnicas de debate (los alumnos pueden ir los lunes o los jueves). El precio será de 150 Euros más el viaje y la tarifa de la conferencia (pendiente de confirmación). Además de las sesiones de debate, los alumnos participarán en actividades obligatorias de recaudación de fondos. Los alumnos deberán tener buenos resultados académicos para poder participar.  

Natación Primaria- Se ofrecerán clases de natación para los alumnos de los cursos PreK- grado 2 los jueves por la tarde. Según el interés de los padres, se determinará qué cursos irán a natación, ya que Can Carelleu únicamente puede acomodar a 60 alumnos. Les recordamos que los alumnos saldrán del colegio a las 3:30 de la tarde para poder ir a natación. Mr. Duval, Director de preescolar y primaria, les ampliará información en los próximos días.
