Application Procedure Print E-mail

BFIS accepts applications all year round. Families are however encouraged to apply by January 31st,  preceding the required academic year of entry to maximize chances of admission. Minimum length of stay at BFIS is one year, although candidates with an exceptional academic record will be considered for the fall semester dependent on space availability.

Nursery (age 3), Pre-Kindergarten (age 4), Kindergarten (age 5) enrollment is limited and the openings at these levels fill rapidly. There are normally spaces in Grades 1 and above (age 6) and especially in Grades 6 – 8 (11-13 years), which is Middle School and Grades 9 – 12 (ages 14-17 years) in the High School.

BFIS tries to accommodate every applicant. If no spaces are available in the relevant classes, applicants are placed on a waiting list in chronological order. A student's position on the waiting list may change if there are subsequent applications from families with a higher priority, based on the factors considered in making an admissions decision. Families of wait-listed applicants will receive notification regarding the likelihood of admission during the school year. It is important that wait-listed applicants explore other educational alternatives while waiting a decision from Benjamin Franklin. Applicants are requested to update their applications for consideration for the following academic year.

Priority for inclusion in a class for the following school year is given to students already enrolled in the school. In November, all current families will be asked whether they wish their child/ren to return for the following school year. The Matriculation Fee is required to secure the placement, and must accompany the form by the specified deadline on the re-registration documents. This is a non-refundable deposit, but is applied against the year's fees.

Once the application process has started and all the required documents for admissions are received by the Admissions Office, the complete application will be reviewed by the  Admissions Coordinator and area Principals. Interviews, tests and other screening meetings will be scheduled as appropriate.

All applicants will be notified in a timely manner preceding the following academic year whether they are successful in gaining a place. If accepted to BFIS, parents will be requested to complete the Matriculation form (available in the Admissions Office). At that time, the Matriculation Fee and the Capital Fund Fee (both non-refundable) must be paid to guarantee the placement of the child/ren.

Once the Business Office has received payment, the student is officially admitted to Benjamin Franklin International School.

The admission procedure may take as little as one week. The time frame will vary case by case.
