Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of local history. Students will participate in a variety of hands-on workshops related to the corresponding themes at local museums, as well as at school.

Artistic and Cultural Excursions

Here is a description of some of the exciting workshops children will participate in at Summer @ BFIS: 

Week 1: Barcino, The Roman City

The City History Museum rests above the ancient remains of Barcino, The Roman City.

Do You Want To Play What The Romans Played?

A Workshop for children 5 to 6 years old

Get to know the games the Roman children played 2000 years ago. Are they the same as the games we play today, or are they very different?

Lucius Invites You To His Home

A Workshop for children 7-12 years old

Lucius Minicius, the first olympic champion of Barcelona, returns to Rome, to his beloved Barcino, and he prepares a grand banquet at his house.  You will learn what it was like to live in a Roman Domus.

Fairies and Goblins

A workshop for children 3 years old to 6 years old

Through music, dance and drawing, you will discover the characteristics, symbolism and how these magical beings connect to nature.

MNAC Game: Juego de la Oca

A worskhop for children 7 years old to 12 years old

Play a typical, medieval game called "Juego de la Oca" on a giant gameboard with Medieval Art motifs.  You will be the players and the game pieces!

Barcelona´s Maritime Museum, located in the building of the royal shipyards, a building with a rich history dating back over 700 years!

 

Pirates Ahoy!

A workshop for children 3 years old to 7 years old

A little pirate has hidden on a ship, in hopes that the ship´s Captain won´t find him! We have all heard stories about pirates, and now you can make your dreams come true: a treasure hunt! But first you must prove that you are up for an adventure.  Would you like to be a member of the ship´s crew?

The Sky: Summertime Stories

A workshop for children 8 years old to 12 years old

Summer is a perfect time to observe tranquil and clear skies. The sky´s most important constellations remind us of the different mythological stories. Through a series of stories, we will learn about Hercules, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, Lyra or Scorpius and in what ways they were used to determine a ship´s location at sea.

Casa Amatller is the first building of Architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch´s famous "mansana de la discòrdia"

  
Mosaics in Casa Amatller

A workshop for children 3 years old to 6 years old

Discover the elements of nature that are hidden inside Casa Amatller and reproduce the forms you see in your own piece of mosaic art! Enjoy a taste of Casa Amatller chocolate, too!

Artists and Bourgoisies

A workshop for children 7 years old to 12 years old

You will participate in a game of clues, and you will learn how the architect Josep Puig i Cadalfach brought  together a large group of artists: sculptors, blacksmiths, glassmakers...to make Mr. Amatller's dream become a reality: The Casa Amatller.

Bellesguard

The Figueras family hired Antoni Gaudi to build this house in 1900.  Remnants of the Martí i "El humá" castle can be found at Bellesguard. Gaudí chose the Neogothic style, even though it was a peculiar style in honor of the King.

"Dissidances", by Nancy Spero

A drawing and collage workshop for children 3 years old to 12 years old

Visit Nancy Spero´s exhibition, "Dissidances", and participate in this spectacular workshop that experiments with movement, color and collage, an artist´s key elements, through discoverying the fragility of paper and mixing text with images.

 

Cooking

Summer@BFIS will integrate cooking activities into each weekly theme. The students will also benefit from visits of local chefs and experts in the area of archeology.

 

Sports

A P.E. Specialist will provide opportunities for physical activity for children of all ages. Students will also participate each week in a monitored swimming class at Can Caralleu.
