Munich math comp1.jpg The ISMTF (the International Schools Mathematics Teachers Foundation) is a non-profit foundation whose purpose is to provide support in the enrichment of teaching and learning of mathematics at international schools; nurture exchange of experiences among mathematics educators; and to help generate interest in and enthusiasm for mathematics among students of these schools.

Teams from ISMTF member schools can participate in the annual ISMTF competition. Separate competitions are held for each of 3 different age groups. Students are usually hosted by local families, and are given the chance to develop friendships with fellow students who may become life-long colleagues.

Questions require critical thinking skills, creative insight, lateral thinking, problem solving, and logic. They are divided into an individual contest consisting of multiple choice questions and a team competition consisting of free response questions. The competition closes with the Sunday Chase. This is an optional fun activity where teams are selected at random from the different schools. They race through a maze of classrooms solving a set of problems.
