SUMMER @ BFIS 2009: “A Trip in Time and Around the World”

For Students Entering PreK Through 7th Grade*Children born between 1997 and 2005.

Summer @ BFIS provides children with intensive art experiences in a culturally diverse environment that emphasizes artistic expression in an English immersion environment.

Children benefit from the great cultural and fun opportunities Barcelona has to offer. This summer, a time machine and some exciting Barcelona sites will take our participants to one of the most exciting adventures in their lives: a trip in time and around the world!

Students at Summer @ BFIS will visit four continents in four different periods in History: Ancient Egypt, Mayan and Aztec Cultures, Modernist Europe and the Mystic Asia. Children will discover Pharaonic secret chambers, Mayan and Aztec totemic animals, some of Gaudi´s most creative and colorful roofs, and the meaning behind Chinese masks. These are just some of the amazing discoveries that will happen this summer!

These are the weekly themes and the cultural visits:

Week 1 - July 6th – 10th : Egypt 1300 B.C. Field trip to “Museu Egipci”

Week 2 – July 13th – 17th : Mexico 14th c. A.D. Field trip to “Museo Barbier-Mueller d´Art precolmbí” and "Museu de Chocolate"

Week 3 – July 20th – 24th : Spain – Catalonia 19th c. A.D. Field trip to “Colonia Güell”

Week 4 – July 27th – 31st : China and Japan 20th c. A.D. “Casa Asia”

Dr. David Penberg, Director of BFIS, will supervise the elaboration and implementation of Summer @ BFIS. Ms. Maribel Castillo and Ms. Keelin Swalve, Summer @ BFIS Coordinators, will be in charge of the program.

Summer @ BFIS will be staffed with native English and multilingual instructors, all with a wide range of experience in the field of education.

The program is open to all students regardless of their native language.

Art Appreciation and English Literacy”

For Students Entering 8th Grade and Higher

This year, Summer @ BFIS will also offer a program designed for students ages 13 and higher with intensive art experiences in a culturally diverse environment that emphasizes artistic expression and English language literacy.

Our adolescent students will also benefit from the great cultural and fun opportunities Barcelona has to offer. This summer, some exciting Barcelona sites will take our participants to one of the most exciting adventures in their lives: a trip in time and around the world!

In addition, they will embark on a month long literacy adventure based on this theme, enriching their oral, reading and writing skills in English!
