Our school´s most spectacular social event of the year is coming up
For people unfamiliar with this concept, imagine 30 different countries hosting a table at one fabulous restaurant – for one night only! You can perform a Gastro Tour of the World in just three hours!

Food Fair is the PTA´s only fundraiser of the year. Ticket sales from this spectacular event enable us to run all the PTA school community events of the year ie, New Parents BBQ, Welcome Coffee, Holiday Concert, Pancake Day, Frosty Friday, Sant Jordi, Carnival  and more!

Here´s how it works:

-Select your Country Captain! The captain help guide the menu, organize & motivate the team. Email the PTA by Fri 26 April with the name of your captain and the team  will receive more information from them shortly.
-Food Volunteers If you don’t want to be the captain, support your country by being on the team and bringing in some gastro treats on the night. Portion guidelines? Plan to cook for approximately 10-12 people.
-Are you a country with small number of volunteers? Still take part! You can showcase one special menu item.
-Students interested in performing on the night? See Ben Torbush for audition details.

We cant run this special night without the support of the wonderful BFIS community & friends. The buzz around this event is infectious – we already have country´s signing up!

Continue reading »]]> 5th grade art class went on a graffiti tour of Barcelona on Wednesday, May 8th.  Students explored, sketched and discussed what they saw and learned first hand the differences between tagging, stenciling and wheat paste or stickering.  They also traced shadows and created temporary graffiti with chalk at Ciutadella Park.  The trip was meant to inspire students ideas for a stencil that will be painted on the wall alongside the Elementary School in the coming weeks!

Continue reading »]]> We are proud to report that our graduating seniors over the last two years have received offers of acceptance from  several prestigious colleges and universities in both hemispheres. A great majority are pursuing  English language programs, primarily in  the United States and the United Kingdom. In addition, our graduates applying to US universities received more than $720,000 in merit-based scholarships..

In our ongoing commitment  to raising the bar at BFIS, we celebrate the achievements of our 2012 and 2013 graduating class; take pride in the role we have played  in their academic, social and emotional  development; and wish them  the best as they leave their BFIS family and continue their journey as lifelong learners.

Continue reading »]]> On May 17th, Richard Blair, George Orwell’s son, will be visiting BFIS with some members of the George Orwell Society from London and Mr. Quentin Kopp, son of Orwell´s commander during the Spanish Civil War.
.
The main building on our campus was formerly Sanatorium Maurin (click here to see some photos and references) - a place of refuge for wounded soldiers during the Spanish Civil War. George Orwell was among its patients.  In his famous book “Homage to Catalonia,” which was written just after his safe return to England, George Orwell relates his personal experiences and observations during his participation in the war.
.
Following a brief tour around the BFIS campus, Mr. Blair will give a talk in the BFIS MS/HS library about his father, and how his participation in the Spanish Civil war and his life in Catalonia influenced his literary work. He will also answer any more general questions you may have about George Orwell.

Continue reading »]]> CULTURAL TRIP TO ZARAGOZA

Spanish SFL students from Grades 7 and 8 visited the city of Zaragoza on April 26th. They had the chance to visit historic places such as the  Aljafería Palace or the Basílica del Pilar,  see the Río Ebro and stroll through the old part of the city. Students visited places they had learned in class and were able to  get a taste of this attractive and historic Spanish city for a day. This cultural trip was supervised by Ms. Alexandra Oriol and Ms. Debora Real.

Did you know that BFIS Main Building was the former Sanatorium Maurin? Do you recognize it ?

The Sanatorium Maurin was inaugurated on Sept. 22nd 1936. It was a hospital to treat Republicans wounded during the Spanish Civil war. The famous writer George Orwell was among its patients. Mr. Richard Blair, George Orwell’s son will be visting BFIS on May 17th with some other members of the George Orwell Society.

Sitges-Castelldefels-Esplugues

Starting from September 2013 we will be running a new bus route from Sitges – Castelldefels – Esplugues.
.
This service will only run in the mornings with the possibility of increasing the service later in the year depending on demand.

Exact bus stop locations and times to be determined later in the year. Any interested families should get in contact with Caroline Rockett at caroliner@bfischool.org

The fees for this service will be:
Sitges and Castelldefels: 100€ per month
Esplugues:  90€ per month

Performing Arts Musical K-Grade 6 and Parents´Choir Debut

Our Performing Arts students from the Theater Club  will be taking the stage and performing their very own musical “Ted´s Journey”.  Our students from K to 6th Grade will be singing, dancing and acting in this fun for all the family show.  Our BFIS Parent´s Choir will also be singing… How can you resist !

Tickets are 8 euros and will be sold after school (Thursdays and Fridays) and at the theater on the day of the performance…. Come and support!
