How to link Podcast Episodes

So you listen to podcasts and would like to share that via our website. Great! it's possible and easier than you think!

Here is a link to podcast from NPR:

http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=1056

NOTE: This is the link you get by clicking the organge podcast icon NPR's podacast link image

Podcasts are (RSS) feeds with the sound files of the episodes enclosed.

More info about podcasts can be found online.

When you use iTunes or another podcast catcher, it will automaticaly download the latest episodes (sound files). You can even configure your computer to automaticaly synchronize (copy) to your portable music player (i.e. iPod).

However there is no need to use these links to download the files or to copy the soundfiles from your PC (or Mac) after they were retrieved via a 'podcast catcher'! Instead just use these links directly in the newly created website content.

When you examine the podcast link above you will find the direct links to the soundfiles (mp3) files. Here is an example of one of these links from the podcast above

If you use the latest version of Internet Explorer (7) it is easy to find the link to the enclosed soundfiles. Just open the podcast feed by clicking the orange button and then 'Right-Click' the link next to the icon_enclosure_music.gif

From the popup menu select 'Copy Link' and the link is ready to be pasted. If you use an older version of IE you will probably see some ugly web code. This is the code that is used for 'RSS Feeds' and podcasts. When you try to read it you will see <enclosure url= followed by the URL to the sound file similar to the link highlighted above... Make sure to find the right one... shortly above it will be the title of the episode.

Once you have the link to the sound file you are ready to paste it...

Click the 'Media Manager' link from the toolbar of the editor (the icon that looks like a film strip) while you write new content, and paste. When saved it will tranform this link into a media player like this:
