A Legacy of Excellence
BFIS was founded in 1986 as not-for-profit International American school in Barcelona. Our legacy of excellence is built on decades of visionary governance, steadfast leadership, and a deep commitment to our school community. Continuous growth at our school is fueled by a strong partnership between the Foundation Board and the Leadership Team, alongside active listening and collaboration with our community. This collective effort ensures we remain adaptive, forward-thinking, and united by a shared vision, honoring our founders' principles of international-mindedness, diversity, compassion, and inclusivity.

The BFIS Foundation Board
The Benjamin Franklin Foundation was created in 1986, as a not-for-profit, educational foundation. The Foundation’s corporate charter and bylaws provide the operational framework that ensures our school’s character and mission remain safeguarded and perpetuated. The Foundation’s Board is responsible for the governance of the school, including its fiduciary oversight, policy and the long-range strategic planning needed to ensure the school’s continued success.
The Board is composed of 10 dedicated members, all BFIS parents who volunteer their time, expertise, and commitment to the school. The mix of skills sought on the Board at any time is based on the strategic objectives set by the Foundation. Bringing diverse professional backgrounds in finance, law, governance, facilities, and other key areas, they play a vital role in the school's strategic direction.
