Originally hailing from the picturesque landscapes of Connecticut, Michelle’s professional journey spans across different continents, marking her as a seasoned educator with a profound global impact. With a focus on middle and high school Social Studies/Humanities, including International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) History, Michelle has left an indelible mark on the educational landscape.
Diverse International Experience: Michelle’s pedagogical adventures have unfolded in diverse settings, from the vibrant classrooms of Chesapeake Science Point Middle and High School in Maryland (USA) to the culturally mixed American International School in Abu Dhabi (UAE), the charming International School of Lausanne (Switzerland), and the dynamic environment of Columbus School in Medellin (Colombia). In August 2020 Michelle joined BFIS in the beautiful city of Barcelona (Spain).
Leadership Trailblazer: Beyond the confines of the classroom, Michelle has emerged as a leader, donning roles such as Head of Department, Year Level Leader, Global Understanding Coordinator, and Service-Learning Coordinator. She was appointed BFIS Middle Years Programme Coordinator in 2023.
Advocate for Inclusive Education: Michelle’s passion extends beyond Social Studies, manifesting in her commitment to skills-based learning, project-based learning, and global/intercultural understanding. Her advocacy encompasses Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, fostering a holistic educational experience.
Curriculum Architect: Michelle is a fervent advocate for curriculum-building, ensuring that educational frameworks align with contemporary needs and challenges.
Service-Learning Champion: A strong proponent of service-learning, Michelle intertwines education with community impact, fostering a sense of responsibility and global citizenship.
Michelle boasts a solid academic foundation with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Maryland, complemented by a Master’s degree in History from Indiana State University. Michelle’s educational odyssey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to shaping young minds globally and transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.
