The journey of our Middle School Soccer Team in the Barcelona school local league (CEEB Consell de l’Esport Escolar de Barcelona) has been nothing short of remarkable. Overall, 32 teams were competing, making the journey to the top a bit daunting!
What started as a challenging season transformed into a story of growth, resilience, and ultimate triumph. The team’s path to victory was marked by significant milestones and moments that highlighted their development in confidence, teamwork, and skills.
A Tough Beginning
The first phase of the league, which took place from October to December, was undeniably challenging. With 8 groups of 8 teams each, our team faced stiff competition. Finishing 5th out of 8 teams was a reflection of the fact that many players were in their first year of playing football, while others were only in their second year, having finished in last place the previous season. Despite these early struggles, the players showed an incredible commitment to improving their game.
Turning the Tide
As the season progressed, the fruits of their hard work in training sessions began to show. The players’ determination and the experience they gained from each match played a crucial role in their turnaround. Entering the second phase of the competition, the team was unstoppable at home, not losing a single match on their turf. Their overall performance in this phase was impressive, with only two losses and twelve wins. This drastic improvement was a testament to the coach and players’ dedication and the solid teamwork they built over the season.
The Final Push
The season’s climax was the Final Phase (Final Four), which determined the champion of Barcelona among the top four teams. As champions of our group, our team earned the right to compete in this prestigious tournament. The first match took place on Saturday, June 8th, against Sant Andreu “El Molí”. The game was a nail-biter; our team initially fell behind but demonstrated incredible resilience by coming back to win 2-1, with the decisive goal scored just three minutes before the final whistle.
Champions of Barcelona
The victory in the semifinal set the stage for the final match of the Barcelona championship on Saturday, June 15th, against Màgic Sants. It was a tense and closely fought battle. However, our team’s steadfast defense and strategic play led to a 1-0 victory, crowning them the Champions of Barcelona.
Reflections on the Season
