BFIS is an American International school in Barcelona accredited by the Middle States Association, the International Baccalaurete Organization and by the Spanish and Catalan Education Departments.

We also have an extensive membership network and collaborate with various NGOs and other organizations in Barcelona.

The Middle States Association is a worldwide leader in accreditation and school improvement. For over 125 years, Middle States has been helping school leaders establish and reach their goals, develop strategic plans, promote staff development and advance student achievement.

International Baccalaureate Organization


With over 5,000 IB World Schools worldwide, this global school community develops well-rounded, caring, knowledgeable and self-motivated students. Joining the IB gives schools an international reputation for excellence and quality.


Spanish Ministry of Education


The Ministry of Education is responsible for proposing and executing the Government's policy on education and vocational training for the educational system and for employment.


Catalan Department of Education


It is the public body in Catalonia in charge of educational policy in the field of non-university education. The Minister of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya is the highest representative of the Department of Education.

Educational Collaborative for International Schools

Founded in 1965, ECIS (the Educational Collaborative for International Schools) is a non-profit global membership organisation. ECIS exists as a professional life-force for members, a vibrant network of thoughtful doers and change-makers. Our membership represents 500 membership communities and 40,000+ passionate educators and leaders in over 80 countries on six continents.

COIS is a membership community working collaboratively to shape international education through professional services to schools, higher education institutions, and individuals. Global citizenship is the centre of everything we do at CIS to support our members.

Mediterranean Association of International Schools

MAIS is a professional organization that strives to improve the quality of education in its Member schools. It promotes the professional development of Faculty, Administrators, and School Board Members, affects communication and interchange, and creates international understanding. MAIS serves as a liaison between its 40 Member Schools, 41 Associate Member organizations as well as other regional, professional, and in-service organizations. Presently, MAIS is composed of schools from 15 different countries.

Global Online Academy (GOA) is a non-profit organization offering top-quality online courses to High School students in more than 130 top international and independent schools worldwide.

AISH is a non-profit organization that provides resources, professional development opportunities, and focused advocacy for International School Heads.

Association for the Advancement of International Education


The Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) is a not-for-profit association of international schools around the world promoting exemplary school leadership and research-based, effective and innovative educational practices. As an autonomous organization, AAIE was legally incorporated in 1966 with a mandate to further and continuously improve international education and cultural understanding across independent overseas schools. AAIE serves a diverse global community providing leadership development across the ever-changing and expanding spectrum of educational programming initiatives and issues.

Barcelona Global


Barcelona Global is a private, independent and non-profit association, that is set up as a citizen's platform of ideas and action, made up by people and companies who care about Barcelona and its future. The association's mission is: to actively contribute to making Barcelona one of the most attractive cities in the world to attract and develop talent and economic activity.

Barcelona Women's Network


Barcelona Women’s Network is a multicultural, diverse group with something for everyone. They set up social activities for their members, and also help them navigate life in this beautiful city and region.

They strive to be the first point of call for international and internationally-minded women of Barcelona who wish to expand their social horizons, take part in fun events, and support a number of  charities.

The Coordinadora Catalana de Fundaciones (CCF) promotes debate and meeting spaces between foundations in the same field to generate synergies, promote projects of common interest and promote networking.

Barcelona International Schools Association

BISA is a professional organization that strives to improve the quality of education in its member schools through several venues. It promotes the sharing of resources, professional development, and communication and interchange; the organization also attempts to create international understanding in Barcelona and beyond. BISA serves as a liaison between its member schools, local governments, and pertinent local and international education organizations.

Association for Music in International Schools


With over 100 member schools on five continents, AMIS provides a network of support for music programs in international schools all over the globe through the presentation of professional conferences, academic workshops, and ensemble festivals.
