Rhonda Leshman, University Counselor

Rhonda boasts an illustrious career spanning over a quarter of a century, dedicated to the field of university admissions and college counseling. Her journey began at her cherished alma mater, The George Washington University in Washington, DC, where she embarked on a remarkable 13-year tenure, immersing herself in the fascinating world of admissions.

 

Although her roots trace back to Detroit, Michigan, Rhonda’s career path led her to the vibrant city of Los Angeles, where she assumed pivotal roles in college counseling. She served as the Director of College Counseling at prestigious institutions such as Shalhevet School and The Archer School for Girls

 

The year 2014 marked a significant turning point in Rhonda’s career as she ventured beyond American borders, embracing the international education landscape. Her journey took her to the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, where she assumed the role of Director of University and Career Counseling at YK Pao School, a renowned institution that draws students from across the globe. Rhonda’s valuable insights and guidance began to transcend cultural boundaries as she helped students navigate the complex web of university admissions on an international scale.

 

Continuing her global journey, Rhonda later found herself amidst the rich educational tapestry of London, England. At Tasis The American School in England, she donned the mantle of College Counselor, bridging the aspirations of American students studying abroad with the diverse array of opportunities available in the United Kingdom.

 

For many years, Rhonda also worked simultaneously as an Admissions Evaluator for UCLA, reading both domestic and international applications and UCLA medical school applications. She also read admissions files for Loyola University University in Los Angeles and Northeastern University in Boston.

 

In 2019, Rhonda embarked on her latest chapter, joining the dynamic team at BFIS (Benjamin Franklin International School). Here, she continues to serve as a dedicated College and Career Counselor, devoting her expertise to guide and empower students on their quest to discover suitable universities and explore their passions and potential career paths. In 2023, Rhonda took on the role of Internship Coordinator at BFIS so students can explore opportunities in the world of work. 

 

Rhonda is a member of several professional organizations including IACAC (International College Admissions Counseling) which named her as the Rising Star in 2016. She is also a member of NACAC (National College Admissions Counseling) and has presented at the annual conferences for these organizations. To keep up with trends in university admissions, Rhonda also regularly attends the CIS Forum on Admissions. 
 

Rhonda’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to the field of college counseling make her an invaluable asset to BFIS, where her passion for nurturing the educational journeys of students shines brightly. Her dedication, not only in facilitating access to higher education but also in helping young minds uncover their interests and career prospects, has left an indelible mark on the institution and the lives of the students she serves. Rhonda’s journey, characterized by dedication, adaptability, and global perspective, continues to inspire both students and colleagues alike.
