Summer Reading 2021

Monday, July 5, 2021

Please take some time this summer break to disconnect, spend quality time with your families and read great quality books. We want to encourage the students to read throughout the vacation, whether they are reading by themselves or you are reading to them. The most important thing is that they continue to be exposed to quality literature and that they continue to increase their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

At first glance, parents seem aware of the importance of summer reading, as 94% agree reading over the summer can help their child during the school year. And yet, nearly half of parents with school-age children are unaware of the “summer slide” (47%), the loss of academic skills that occurs when school is not in session and which is attributed largely to the lack of readingScholastic Reading Report

At Benjamin Franklin International School, it is our hope to nurture and foster a love for reading. It is not only to maintain their literacy skills and academic achievement, it is also about engaging with good stories, experiencing emotions and having fun. There are so many benefits associated with reading. It enhances focus and concentration, improves your emotional health, broadens your imagination, reduces stress, expands your vocabulary, increases your memory and boosts sleep.

Don’t forget to read during summer break and encourage your children to do so as well. Here below is the list of recommended summer reading by BFIS Librarias, Ms. Emma Kerr and Mr. David Cevoli and the Middle and High School Summer Reading Assignments.

Happy Reading!
